TONZU Beef Steak Tempeh in Brown Sauce

Enjoy the nutty flavours of TONZU Tempeh steaks in a beautiful soy and coconut milk sauce – A simple satisfying dish that takes 10 minutes to prepare and 10 minutes in the oven – Serve and savour.



  • 1/2 block TONZU Tempeh (add more if you prefer)
  • 2 teaspoons sweet Indonesian soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup coconut milk
  • 1 shallot
  • 1/2 clove garlic
  • 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
  • generous pinch of black pepper
  • salt to taste
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons oil of your choice
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons dark brown or palm sugar (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon vinegar (optional)


  • Cut tempeh block into two pieces.
  • Slice through the center of each piece to create four little steaks.
  • Finely chop shallots and garlic and fry for 2-3 mins (in some oil in a pan on medium-high heat) with the pepper and salt. Then add Tempeh and sauté for a further 3-4 mins or until cooked.
  • Add soy sauce, coconut milk and sugar and vinegar (if desired).
  • Bring to a boil and simmer uncovered for about 6 – 10 mins or until liquid has evaporated.

How to Serve

  • Serve as is or over a bed of rice
